To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will publish hygiene-related reports on slaughterhouses within the United Kingdom.

Local authorities—district councils—are responsible for the enforcement of hygiene standards in slaughterhouses and it is for individual authorities to decide whether or not to publish related reports.As announced on 3 April this year, agriculture departments will take over responsibility for licensing all slaughterhouses in Great Britain when new EC rules come into force on 1 January 1993. My ministerial colleagues and I are considering what information should be made publicly available when we assume this responsibility.
