Mr. Simon Hughes
To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the 28 zones which are the subject of an action by the EC against the Government for failure to meet EC nitrate levels.
Mr. Baldry
The 28 zones covered by the European Commission's 1989 case against the United Kingdom, which is to be heard in the European Court on 27 November, are shown in the table, together with the date by which each will comply with the nitrate standard in the EC drinking water directive.
