To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the levels of pollution from each incinerator operating in England; and to what extent they comply with EC legislation.

[holding answer 25 November 1991]: Information on levels of pollution from individual plant is not available. The European Community has set limits on emissions to air from municipal waste incinerators with which incinerators built since 1 December 1990 must comply now. Municipal waste incinerators with a capacity of 6 tonnes/hour or more in existence on that date have until 1 December 1996 to be brought up to the European standards.
