To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many people are awaiting an organ transplant; and if he will give the figure for 1990; and how long on average a patient must wait for a transplant of a kidney, heart and lungs, heart, lungs, liver and cornea.

[holding answer 20 November 1991]: The information requested is not held by my Department. A transplant register is compiled by the United Kingdom transplant support service authority which is based in Bristol. However the register is not held in a form which would enable the information requested to be collated readily.
