To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to his answer, Official Report, 13 November, column 614, what are the implications of the negotiated deployment of strategic defences for the effectiveness of the United Kingdom's strategic nuclear deterrent.

President Bush made it clear in his statement of 27 September that he is seeking the limited deployment of non-nuclear defences to protect against limited ballistic missile strikes without undermining the credibility of existing deterrent forces.
