To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what assessment he has made of the adequacy of welfare arrangements for horses and ponies shipped from the United Kingdom to the Republic of Ireland.

I am riot aware of any particular problems associated with the welfare of horses and ponies shipped from the United Kingdom to the Republic of Ireland.

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many horses and ponies are shipped each year to the Republic of Ireland from England and Wales; and if he will make a statement.

Figures for United Kingdom exports to the Republic of Ireland are given below. Separate totals for exports from England and Wales are not available.
