To ask the Secretary of State for Defence why the magnetic treatment facility at Faslane has not been proceeded with; how much has been spent on it; and how degaussing will now be carried on.

I refer the hon. Member to the reply that I gave on 26 June at column 496. Work to define a more cost-effective solution to the requirement is under way. Approximately £15 million had been spent on the contract at the time of cancellation.
