To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what consultations he has had with Tai Cymru regarding the resources required by Welsh housing associations to acquire mortgaged properties at risk of repossession for rent to occupants eligible for housing benefit as sitting tenants; and if he will make a statement.

The statement yesterday by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer, about the package agreed between the Government and mortgage lenders to tackle mortgage repossessions, explained that mortgage lenders would be providing the resources for housing associations to acquire mortgaged properties at risk of repossession. We and Housing for Wales are having discussions with mortgage lenders in Wales about the implementation of their scheme.
