To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will undertake to examine the feasibility of introducing thresholds on noise levels for new railways.

We plan to draw up noise insulation regulations for new railway lines. I gave details of our proposals in my answer to the hon. Member for Battersea (Mr. Bowis) on 28 November at column 577 about the recommendations of the Mitchell committee.
