To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on the implications for road safety of the new regulations on tyre tread introduced on 1 January.

The new tyre tread regulations requiring a tread depth of 1ยท6 mm over three quarters of the width for passenger cars, light vans and light trailers should improve the general condition of tyres and hence have a beneficial effect on road safety.
