To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give the change in the number of beds in NHS mental hospitals in every year since 1977 in absolute and percentage terms; and the number of day centre places opened in the same period.

The available information on psychiatric beds is shown in the table. Information on numbers of day patient places, opened is not centrally available.
