To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what information he has in respect of each health board in Scotland regarding (a) the number of enrolled nurses currently employed by the health board and (b) the number of enrolled nurses who are currently engaged in an enrolled nurse conversion or bridging course.

[holding answer 17 February 1992]: As at 30 September 1991, the latest date for which figures are available, the number of enrolled nurses employed by health boards is set out in table 1.

Information by health board on the number of enrolled nurses currently engaged on an enrolled nurse conversion or bridging course is not held centrally. The numbers of enrolled nurses on bridging courses in each college of nursing and midwifery at 30 September 1991 is, however, given in table 2 below.
