To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will respond positively to the application by the Scottish Refugee Council for increased funding; and if he will make a statement.

[holding answer 31 January 1992]: The Scottish Refugee Council's application has been carefully considered along with other competing applications. While we are unable to provide the full increase sought, the Scottish Office has today written to the Scottish Refugee Council offering to continue providing the salary costs of a part-time case worker up to a limit of £5,957 in 1992–93, an increase of 4·5 per cent. on the present year's grant.
