To ask the Secretary of State for Health what has been the amount of administration expenditure by his Department in each year since 1978–79.

[holding answer 18 February 1992]: Net current expenditure for the years 1986–87 to 1991–92, as published in the Departmental Report (Cm. 1913, table 3), is as follows. The figures for 1986–87 to 1988–89 are an estimated apportionment to the Department of Health in the period before the split of DHSS. Comparable figures for earlier years are not available.
