To ask the Chairman of the Administration Committee what steps are taken to ensure that hon. Members' telephone and fax communications from the House are secure.

Apart from standard procedures for maintaining security within the Palace, I understand that no special arrangements are made to monitor the privacy of telecommunications equipment or messages within the House. The House authorities have no control over the public telecommunications network.
