To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much money in interest the Government gained by withholding the salaries of 63,000 civil servants for three days in February 1993.

The Exchequer benefit from the late payment in error of the salaries of some civil servants in the Department of Employment Group at the end of February was approximately £25,000.
