To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many EC countries have failed to implement the directive on a common system of taxation of mergers and divisions of parents and subsidiary companies in EC countries.

The Commission of the European Communities is responsible for ensuring that member states comply with their obligations to implement Community legislation. Provisions implementing the directives on cross-border mergers and on parent and subsidiary companies in the United Kingdom were included in the Finance (No. 2) Act 1992.
