To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many claims for compensation have been received by his Department since 1962 from past or present employees of the atomic weapons research establishments at (a) Aldermaston, (b) Burghfield and (c) Cardiff; what illnesses those claims were for; and how many have resulted in payments being made.

Records of claims dating back to 1962 are not available. The more recent statistics are held in a manner which does not make it possible to answer the hon. Member's question without disproportionate cost. I will write to the hon. Member.
