To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he has made any assessment of the effectiveness of the way in which parish councils are receiving information about the nature and details of planning applications.

No assessment has been made. Under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 parish councils have the right to be notified about all planning applications within their boundary. Paragraph 8 of schedule 1 will be amended to ensure that those parish councils wishing to be notified about planning applications will also be notified about alterations to applications.
