To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what changes he plans to arrangements for the involvement of members of the judiciary on the Criminal Justice Consultative Council and the area criminal justice liaison committees.

Following consultation with the Lord Chief Justice, I have agreed that Lord Justice Farquharson will become chairman of the Criminal Justice Consultative Council with immediate effect. Judges will also chair the 24 area criminal justice liaison committees which will meet initially in the autumn.
