To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what action his Department has undertaken following the research it has commissioned on the social fund; and when a new system of entitlements to grants will be developed.

We are currently carefully considering the operation of the social fund, including grants provision, in response to the research commissioned from York university's social policy research unit, along with a number of other reports and our own close monitoring of the fund.
