To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what force of impact the caissons on the Skye bridge are being constructed to withstand.

The caissons on the Skye bridge have been designed to withstand the impact from a 10,000 tonne dead weight vessel. This allows for all known shipping movements. This 10,000 tonne limit was agreed with Marine Directorate of the Department of Transport.
