Mr. Charles Kennedy
To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what force of impact the caissons on the Skye bridge are being constructed to withstand.
Lord James Douglas-Hamilton
The caissons on the Skye bridge have been designed to withstand the impact from a 10,000 tonne dead weight vessel. This allows for all known shipping movements. This 10,000 tonne limit was agreed with Marine Directorate of the Department of Transport.
