To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what plans he has to introduce a national licensing scheme of persons managing houses in multiple occupation; and if he will make a statement.

The Department has no plans to introduce a national licensing scheme for houses in multiple occupation (HMOs). Local authorities already have sufficient powers under Part XI of the Housing Act 1985 to control standards in HMOs.
