To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what initiatives have been taken by the British Council to raise the profile of Northern Ireland abroad.

Since 1986 the British Council, with financial support from the Department of Education for Northern Ireland, has operated an annual programme of cultural events, study hours and exhibitions designed to raise the profile of Northern Ireland in the United States. In 1992–93, this was complemented by a similar programme in Europe.
