Mr. Milburn
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport (1) what assessment his Department has made of the impact of the proposed EC anti-tampering directive on motorbikes on (a) the cost of running a motorcycle, (b) the price of new bikes and (c) the United Kingdom's performance and racing industry;(2) if his Department will oppose the EC's proposed anti-tampering directive on motorbikes; and if he will make a statement.
Mr. Kenneth Carlisle
The EC Commission has not yet presented a proposal for a directive to the Council of Ministers for consideration. It would be premature to take a view on the United Kingdom's approach and to make an assessment of the likely effects of the measure before they do so.
