To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what information he has received to date of the locations of sunken container ships that are floating submerged in the world's ocean waterways; what action he has taken to warn United Kingdom shipping companies and their ships masters of their reported whereabouts; and if he will make a statement.

My right hon. Friend has received no information of any such cases. However, masters have an international obligation to report the sighting of a dangerous derelict vessel or any other direct dangers to navigation to all ships in the vicinity and to the appropriate shore authority. Navigation warnings will be issued by the hydrographic office responsible for the area concerned.
