To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is the current shortfall in staff at AWE Aldermaston in (a) the supervisory and AEC category, (b) the specialist category, (c) the industrials, craft category and (d) the non-industrials category.

Following the contractorisation of the Atomic Weapons Establishment on 1 April 1993 the question of staff numbers and any shortfalls is a matter for the operating contractor, Hunting-BRAE Ltd. However, the latest figures available to us in the categories specified are as follows:
