To ask the right hon. Member for Selby, as representing the Church Commissioners, in what circumstances the incumbent of a parish who ceases to be a priest in the Church of England may continue to occupy church property.

Generally speaking, the freehold of a parsonage and church are vested in the incumbent in right of his office. If he ceased to hold the office, he would cease to have an interest in, or right to occupy, those properties.
