To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is the (a) shortest and (b) longest time served in the former Yugoslavia by members of Her Majesty's armed forces currently engaged there.

The standard length of tour for British armed forces personnel serving in the former Yugoslavia is six months. To date the longest tour, for a few key personnel, has been 6·5 months and the shortest, for specialist personnel deployed for a specific task, two days.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is the cost to date of the British presence in the former Yugoslavia; and if he will make a statement.

It is assessed that the additional cost of the United Kingdom presence in the former Yugoslavia amounts to date to some £78,000,000.
