To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what assessment he has made of how recent representations on defence expenditure differ from those received by his Department during the mid-1980s.

There have been major changes in the strategic environment since the mid-1980s. These changes have been reflected in our defence expenditure plans and, of course, in the representations received on them.
