To ask the Secretary of State for Health what plans she has to turn the NHS management executive into a next steps agency; and if she will make a statement.

We have no such plans. I refer the hon. Member to the reply my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Croydon, North-East (Mr. Congdon) on 12 May at columns 483–84, which sets out the terms of reference of the national health service management functions and manpower review.The conclusions of this review will be relevant to the future organisation of the NHS management executive.
