18.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is his policy with regard to the joint use of helicopters and other facilities for defence and civilian purposes including air ambulance and police work.

Service helicopters and associated facilities are made available for non-military purposes under arrangements with other Government Departments and subject to operational commitments. A typical example is the provision of civilian search and rescue.
