To ask the Secretary of State for Education what was the total full-time equivalent number of students in higher education, postgraduate and undergraduate, from the United Kingdom and EC, in each year from 1980 to the most recent year available.

Total full-time equivalent (FTE) student numbers of United Kingdom and EC domiciled' higher education students in Great Britain institutions are shown in the table:
