To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the role of his Department in the drawing up of the first United Kingdom national sustainable strategy; how many civil servants in his Department will be involved in the drawing up of the plan; and what measures are being undertaken to raise awareness regarding sustainability among the departmental staff involved.

My Department will be playing a full part in the preparation of the United Kingdom's report to the UN Commission on Sustainable Development which is being co-ordinated by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment. The number of civil servants involved will depend upon the report's contents.
