To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what were the numbers of people in independent care homes and statutory homes at 31 January and 31 March.

Approximately 2,921 and 12,247 beds were available in statutory and independent homes respectively at 31 January 1993, compared with approximately 2,735 and 12,852 at 31 March. It is not known how many of these beds were occupied on the dates in question.
