To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what was the total number of self-employed people in each local authority area in Wales in each of the last five years; and if he will indicate (a) the total number of self-employed and (b) the number of self-employed who were not on the Department of Social Security's books.

Information on the number of self-employed people in each local authority area in Wales is available only from the 1991 population census and published in part 1 of the country reports (CEN 91 CR 47 to 54 for Welsh districts and counties) available in the Library of the House. Information on self-employed persons in receipt of benefits is not available for local authority areas.
