To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will make a statement about the publication, or otherwise, of the results of key stage 1 and 3 tests in schools this year; and what percentage of schools he expects to carry out these tests.

It remains my intention to publish available national data arising from this year's statutory assessment of seven and 14-year-olds. I wrote recently to the chairmen of governors of all maintained schools in Wales encouraging the participation of their schools in the tests. I hope that they will do so in order that the information can usefully inform the current review of the national curriculum which, is being carried out jointly by the Curriculum Council for Wales and the School Examinations and Assessment Council.
