To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what assessment he has made as to whether projects for people with drug and alcohol problems, previously funded by his Department, will be given contracts by social services departments.

This Department has never funded such projects although individual residents in homes which cater for such people may receive social security benefits. The negotiation of contracts for social care is a matter for social services departments acting under the guidance of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Health.
