To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received from judges and the magistracy about the restrictions on the powers to impose a suspended sentence under the Criminal Justice Act 1991.

We have received numerous representations from judges and magistrates about various provisions in the Criminal Justice Act 1991, but we cannot recall receiving any specific representations about the restrictions introduced by the Act on the imposition of suspended sentences.
