To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what has been the average (a) local authority expenditure and (b) Government grant to local authorities per head of population in England, for the last three years for which figures are available;(2) what has been
(a) the expenditure and (b) the Government grant per head of population of (i) Cheltenham borough and (ii) Gloucestershire, for the last three years for which figures are available.

As the two authorities do not cover the same functions, the specific grants are quite different in size and composition. Also includes additional grant for teachers' pay (Gloucestershire, 1992–93), and community charge benefit grant and community charge transitional relief/reduction scheme grant paid to Cheltenham. | |||
