To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what proposals he has to regulate the operation of unqualified immigration advisory services.

The Government have drawn the attention of those planning the new Immigration Appeals Advisory Service and of the Law Society to the recommendation of the Home Affairs Committee that a register of responsible agencies should be established. Should such a list be drawn up, we would be ready to consider making it available to applicants. We have no plans ourselves to draw up a register, or otherwise to regulate advisory services of this kind.
