To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement about the provision of in vitro fertilisation treatment; what is the current waiting list for this treatment; and what arrangements are in place to ensure that women in need of this treatment receive it at an appropriate stage of physical development and age.

I refer the hon. Member to the reply my right hon. Friend gave to a question by my hon. Friend the Member for Kincardine and Deeside (Mr. Kynoch) on 10 March, Official Report, column 593–94.There are four centres currently offering in vitro fertilisation treatment in Scotland, at Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, and Glasgow. Information on their waiting lists is not held centrally. It is for individual health boards to decide whether or not to provide or purchase these services.
