To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what plans he has to review the cases of those convicted on the evidence of confession alone, before the introduction of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984.

My right hon. and learned Friend is always ready to consider representations alleging wrongful conviction, whatever the nature of the evidence in the case, and to exercise his powers wherever it is appropriate to do so. He has, however, no plans to institute a general review of cases falling into the category described.
