To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what duties, responsibilities and rights of inspection Her Majesty's inspectorate of schools in Scotland has over the new structure of further education colleges; what changes have been made in the role of HMI since 1 April; if any further changes are planned; and if he will make a statement.

Her Majesty's inspectors' duties, responsibilities and rights of inspection in further education continue as before. Their main additional duty will be, in co-operation with the relevant administrative division, to advise my right hon. Friend on the corporate plans submitted by the FE colleges.
