To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what estimate he has of the number of empty private homes in Wales and of how many of these are (a) repossessed empty houses, (b) empty unsold private homes currently on the market and (c) inherited private homes which remain empty.

It is estimated from the 1991 census of population that there were 56,400 vacant private sector household spaces in Wales. A household space is the accommodation available for a household and is defined in "1991 Census Definitions", a copy of which is available in the Library of the House. Information on the cause of vacancy is not available.
