Local authority district employment data are available in selected years, on a consistent basis from 1981. The table shows the number of people employed in each industrial sector within Renfrew district in that year and in 1984, 1987, 1989 and 1991. It can be seen that the economy of Renfrew has experienced the process of structural change, a common feature of many modern economies towards a more diversified structure.
