To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what checks are made and by whom, on pollution in the River Thames; and if he will make a statement.

The National Rivers Authority is responsible for monitoring the quality of the River Thames; the sampling results are available on public registers maintained in the NRA's Thames regional office.
