To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on relations between the United Kingdom and the People's Republic of China.

We share with China the joint objective of maintaining the stability and prosperity of Hong Kong. We are also seeking to improve relations across a broad front. As fellow members of the Security Council, we maintain a dialogue on international issues. We would like by increasing our trade to participate in the rapid growth of the Chinese economy. We regularly raise a number of other matters including human rights and Tibet with the Chinese Government.
