Mr. Nigel Griffiths
To ask the President of the Board of Trade how many representations he received objecting to his 1992 proposal to license package travel companies; and from whom.
Mr. McLoughlin
[holding answer 25 May 1993]: A proposal for a licensing system for all organisers of packages was included in the Department of Trade and Industry consultation paper on the implementation of the package travel directive published in July 1991. Of those who responded to this paper, 15 registered a specific objection to a licensing system. These respondents were virtually all representatives of domestic tourist interests.
