Escapes

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many recorded instances of escapes from Crown courts have occurred in each of the last 10 years.

Responsibility for this matter has been delegated to the Director General of the Prison Service, who has been asked to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter from A. J. Butler to Mr. Alun Michael, dated June 1993:

The Home Secretary has asked me, in the absence of the Director General from the office, to reply to your recent Question asking how many recorded instances of escapes from Crown Courts have occurred in each of the last 10 years.

The information requested is available centrally only for prisoners who have escaped from Crown Courts since 20 June 1988. The number of Crown Court escapes since that date is set out in the table below:
